CASTAWAYS 1.1 WINAMP 2.x SKIN
==============================
1. About Castaways:
The moderators of Nullsoft's Skin Love forum sponsored a summer skinning contest. I could think of no better place to celebrate summer than a South Pacific island, where it's always hot and sunny. So join me, if you will, in my paradise on Castaway Island.
I should thank Mr Jones, who... convinced me to start and finish Castaways. He is truly the epitome of patience.
And a hello goes out to Duk, a constant friend, who once again shows up in my skin.
2. About Skin Files:
Winamp is a software-based digital audio player for Windows systems. One of Winamp's many features is the ability to customize the GUI with "skin" files, of which this archive is one. You can download Winamp at http://www.winamp.com.
To use this archive, simply move it (still as a zip file) into your Winamp skins directory, generally C:Program FilesWinampSkins. Within the Winamp options menu you will find the Skin Browser, which allows you to select the look of Winamp.
This file might have an extension of "wsz". If so, it is still a valid zip archive which has simply been renamed. This renaming allows Winamp to automatically install the skin when you open the file through any conventional Windows method.
This archive may be distributed freely as long as no profit is gained from any such transactions. No files within the archive may be altered or deleted.
3. About MikroAmp:
This zip file includes a skin for MikroAmp, a Winamp plug-in by Michael Jervis. MikroAmp provides a small, handy interface for Winamp which keeps all Winamp's controls tucked neatly into a corner of your desktop.
If you have MikroAmp installed, you don't need to do anything more for the BathTile skin, MikroAmp will apply it automatically.
You can download MikroAmp at http://www.skinmaster.co.uk/
4. About Acknowledgements:
The mermaid in Castaways is a rendered Poser model, designed by Dan Cortopassi. You can find it at http://www.dacourt.com. The texture applied to the mermaid is by Nathalie Moore, from http://www.islandgraphicsdesign.com.
The sunbathing snowman draws inspiration from a Rowena Morrill painting.
In creating Castaways, I used:
- Corel Photo-Paint 9 (http://www.corel.com)
- Poser by Curious Labs (http://curiouslabs.com)
- Viscolor utility by Eugene Loginov (http://eal.da.ru)
- MicroAngelo (http://www.impactsoft.com)
Some useful references to help grok the mysteries of Winamp skins:
- Magic Layer 3 site (http://www.spaceports.com/~magic3/specs/index.html)
- Strider's Unofficial Winamp Skin Specs (http://www.algonet.se/~daniel7/winamp/skinspecs.html)
Winamp hosts a Share Your Skin Love forum, which is an entertaining place to visit if you want to make your own skins: http://forums.winamp.com/cgi/Ultimate.cgi
