Version 1.00 (Sapphire)
Main Features - 3 coloured skin (3 shades of blue, actually), 3-D-Windows98-like shaded
areas, and iconified buttons, all with drop-shadows (which disappear when the buttons are
pressed, creating a depth feeling).
Custom cursors, anti-aliased text, and a smooth junction of the components. Some borders
and coloured areas in different components have the same width/heigh; Main, EQ and PL can
be stacked both horizontally and vertically, in any desired sequence, as they'll always
fit nicely.
Some minor special animation effects in the volume and balance control.
Full compliance with WA 2.91, WA 2.81 and below.
----------------------------------
Introduction - This my second skin ever, a very "clean" one, thus its name, "clean amp".
I had this strange idea of making a skin avoinding any special tricks with programs such
as CorelPHOTO-PAINT, even though I'm going to attend a graphics design course at the
Fine-Arts Faculty of Lisbon. I decided I would use mostly MS Paint to achieve this feat,
and so I did. I only used PHOTO-PAINT for rendering the smaller text pieces, such as the
stack buttons in PL Editor or the bitmap font, and further on, I'll use it again to tint
the skin with alternative colours.
It's an 80% MS Paint skin, then. Kinda poor as far as anti-aliasing and other special
effects are concerned, but it ends up being more functional than every skin I've have in
my PC. Nevertheless, it has some interesting details, like the fading-out icons in
volume and balance control, or the custom winamp cursors that provide a sort-of tooltip,
in a Mac/Linux-ish black pointer (if you wish to use the whole set in Windows cursors too,
to make a match between Winamp and your Windows theme, you can find regular and animated
cursors in the folder "goodies" inside the skin file - New Windows XP anti-aliased (with
transparent shadows) cursors included!). Check them out! Besides, everything is 100%
skinned, and fully compliant with Winamp 2.91, but also (!) with older versions like
Winamp 2.81 (and below), as older files like avs.bmp and numbers.bmp are still included.
I made it to match my Windows colour scheme and fonts, and as it grew and turned out to be
an interesting idea, I thought "Hey, what the hell, why shouldn't I publish this thing?".
Now, I'm already thinking of going further: instead of just sharing the product of this
very personal piece of work (check screenshot.gif and you'll know what I'm talking about),
I'm thinking of make a wide range of colour combinations to fit the needs of every winamp
user, from those running a plain classic Windows 98 to those running an
Eye-Candy-Themed-XP-Thing. And there's more, this skin shows almost no text at all in
the buttons (except in the playlist stack buttons, but small icons instead, which are
easier to understand by non-english-speaking users. Also, most of the icons are not
anti-aliased, as this skin is prepared to work nice in resolutions up to 1280x1024 (even
though anti-aliased text isn't easily readable).
I hope you like it and find it as usable as I do...
Any questions, suggestions or bugs can be reported to info-is@in-file, or directly to
me (Mainyehc) in the portuguese IRC server irc.PTnet.org, (channels #FBAUL, #Prados_Verdes
or #[FAP], or if I'm not there, try talking in private with me or send me a memo).
----------------------------------
Misc. notes - Even though this is a very simple skin and that I checked and double checked
everything, it is possible that you may find some bugs in this skin, but remember, this is
my second Winamp skin... And it's true, Winamp itself has a lot of skin bugs; If you wish
to make a skin all by yourself (i.e., not using those skin generators), I suggest you take
a look at some very good templates like Skinner's Atlas (the one which I used to do this
skin) - http://classic.winamp.com/skins/detail.jhtml?componentId=126738
or Template Amp - http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.jhtml?componentId=71571
These will lead you through the whole process, and those nasty Winamp native bugs are very
well documented.
----------------------------------
Acknowledgements - I wish to thank Jellby for his Skinner's Atlas 1.4, without which I'd
have taken about ten times more to learn how skins work (maybe I wouldn't have started
doing skins in the first place...and besides, Skinner's Atlas 1.5 is still very useful to
me), and the guys from Winamp Forums for their help on this skinning business.
